I have never found it to be true that when it rains, it pours. I HAVE found it to be true that good things and bad things come at you full force all at once, each trying to distract you from the other, each succeeding intermittently. You would do well to focus on the good, but you would also do well never to expect a world where the good things will not bring their bad counterparts, who will shit on your sofa and steal your roommate's prescription drugs. The best you can do is really appreciate the good things, and hug them in the entryway as they leave, and point to the bad things and say, "Thanks for not being that guy."

When it rains, the sun shines. When it rains, it suns?

I'm really not sure if this is the best place for this but I absolutely adore your novel. I just finished it and my response was almost instinctive to log onto your blog and say something, anything just to show my appreciation.

I'm scouring through past pages for the errant one I might have missed in my hasty reading, hoping to savor a single bite more. Fantastic debut man, please keep writing. I'd get more specific but I don't want to spoil fellow comment browsers.

It's weird seeing your book crowning a pile built of Chabon, Eggars, Wilde and Murakami. I can't shake this picture of you guys sharing a beer. Like you've gained membership into this club of fantastic people.

In some way, buying your book for me was supporting someone I'd known 'from the beginning'. This of course is utterly ridiculous since we've never met but just from your videos and your writing here on the blog it just felt 'good' to buy it and of course it was brilliant to read, of course it was, like there was any doubt.

Is it possible to be proud of a stranger?

P.S. I've already gotten a few friends to pick it up as well, doing my part!

P.P.S. Bring Mystery Team to Toronto ;_;

Hey DC,

Thanks for the comment.

I completely agree that you need to focus on the good. Some days the bad things definitely seems to be overwhelming but in the end you also have to remember that no matter what happens it can always be worse. Although your story may be.. gross.. it could be worse. Which, in the grand scheme of things, doesn't make it feel any better. Someday, you'll be able to look back and laugh at it. Maybe not tomorrow, but someday.

Anyways, I just wanted to thank you for your book. It's really amazing and both myself and my mother have really enjoyed it. It helped me distract her when she would have been otherwise freaking out, which is an amazing feat all on its own. So thanks, like a lot.

Hey Mr Pierson,
dunno if this is the right place to talk about your book. I'm going to give it a try, though.
I just received my copy via a website. I hope it is as awesome as it looks and as everyone is telling me.
You will hear more from me when I read it.
love,
Iris
